You are invited to an event aimed at raising awareness of cervical cancer and screening among black, faith and minority ethnic communities.
The event is being held jointly by the NHS Cervical Screening Programme and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, the only UK charity dedicated to women and their families affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities.
As shown by extensive research, both awareness of cervical cancer and uptake of screening are considerably lower in BME women when compared to the wider population. This meeting is an opportunity for you to hear from leading cervical screening experts about cervical cancer and the importance of screening. It is also intended as a forum through which to share experiences and best practice about working together to benefit different communities.
The event will be held at 10 am on Thursday 26th January, 2012 at The King's Fund, 11-13 Cavendish Square, London W1G 0AN.
Please contact Lucy Meade at press.office@nhscancerscreening.nhs.uk or telephone 020 7400 4499 to confirm attendance. Lunch will be provided.

Researchers from the University of Sheffield are carrying out research across England to find out what happens when therapy (‘talking treatments’, counselling, psychotherapy) ‘goes wrong’ and makes someone feel worse.
This research will help Adept to develop some practical ways to identify and prevent therapies from failing. If you have had an experience of therapy that you feel has ‘gone wrong’ or been harmful, Adept are keen to hear from you.
Adept would like to hear from people who have had therapy and therapists/counsellors. It does not matter whether the therapy was or was not an NHS service.
To take part in the study, you will need to complete a questionnaire. After this, you may be asked to take part in an interview or focus group (although there is no obligation to do so).
If you would like more information please click here Or
ff you want to talk to anyone about the study please contact Alexis Foster (Research Assistant) by telephone on 0114 222 0845 or email alexis.foster@sheffield.ac.uk.
