Public inquiry to be held on the label 'schizophrenia'

What does the label of 'schizophrenia' mean to you?

Health bodies, academics, service users, community groups and survivors of the illness will launch a public inquiry on schizophrenia and its impact on the wider public.



The inquiry is being conducted as a result of the strong feeling that the 'Schizophrenia Commission', launched by Rethink, is insufficiently concerned with the potential affects of being labelled 'schizophrenic' minority communities.

Patrick Vernon, CEO of The Afiya Trust, who has given his full support behind the inquiry said: "This is a great opportunity to have an inquiry which looks at the detrimental affect the assocation of being labelled schizophrenic has had on Black and minority ethnics over the past four or five decades."
