The National BME Advocacy Network aims to bring together mental health advocacy organisations delivering specific services to BME communities. Launched in 2008, the project is funded by the Department of Health.
- Raise the profile of BME advocacy organisations working in mental health.
- Develop a platform for such organisations to network, support and share good practice.
- Generate opportunities to come together through regional and national events.
- Develop an online searchable directory of BME advocacy services.
- Support mainstream and generic organisations who want to improve their work with BME communities through training and awareness events around race, culture and discrimination.
- Reduce isolation, increase the opportunity to access resources, and share good practice to make BME mental health advocacy services sustainable.
- Increase cohesion and create a collective voice of BME mental health advocates.
- Provide better support for BME mental health advocacy services through networking and increasing opportunities for forming partnerships and multi-agency working.
- The project will work closely with the National BME Mental Health Network and the Catch-A-Fiya Network at The Afiya Trust, and with existing advocacy networks (both BME specific and generic), statutory and voluntary sector, user-led organisations and other interested groups.
